CANADIAN ROCKIES AND GLACIER NATIONAL PARK
The Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park are some of the most beautiful areas in North America. I was on a 9- day trip with a group of friends and we all agreed this was a place we would return. We flew into the Calgary International Airport and as soon as we walked through the airport, we noticed it was one of the cleanest airports we had ever flown into. The mezzanine had some of the most beautiful sculptures. Little did we know, there was more beauty in store for us.
Calgary is a beautiful metropolitan city loaded with sculptures denoting the world famous “Calgary Stampede Rodeo” and homage to the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
I have to say my favorite place in the Canadian Rockies is Banff. We took a gondola ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views of six mountain ranges. Our hotel was right downtown within walking distance of shops and restaurants. If you are ever in Banff, be sure to try the Steelhead Trout and Bison Burgers.
We visited Glacier National Park in Montana and took the “Going-to-the-Sun” road into the heart of Glacier National Park. We were in the famous Red Jammers with the open tops. Very cold, but worth it for the magnificent views.
I got the chance to walk across the Columbia Icefield’s Athabasca Glacier. Just getting to the Glacier was an experience riding on an all-terrain Ice Explorer. We learned that the meltwater from the Columbia Icefield feeds streams that flow into three oceans: the Arctic, the Atlantic, and the Pacific. That’s amazing.
The Canadian Rockies are in one word “magnificent”. The scenery is some of the most spectacular I have ever seen. If you ever get the chance, take this trip. I plan to re-visit in the near future.
